
This position is under the direct supervision and reports to the Secondary School Principal. The Information Science and Media Specialist is in charge of collecting, organizing, and issuing library resources such as books and videos; cataloging materials; and maintaining the atmosphere and library environment.
Train and promote ethical and efficient information seeking behaviors
Coordinating, Maintaining and update online Ed-Admin Library and other systems used at HOPAC
Provide training to students and staff on the use of the library online systems.
Create an environment conducive to quick accessibility, good study habits, and development of proficient media users
Maintains an accurate and current inventory of media materials and equipment, and submits reports in a timely manner.
Maintain a current electronic database for the students to use.
To act as a link between online systems company and supplier
Keep track of all these databases and take care of written procedures to ensure continuity and accuracy.
Implementation of an easy to use menu-system
Maintain a current affairs and media database
Lead in the research, critique, and selection of books (old and new) to add to the library, weighing against HOPAC’s values and worldview.
Follow office procedures for purchase of new materials.
Assess new books before cataloging them to ensure the stock is suitable for our library.
Daily and long-term operation of the circulation system including maintaining the catalogue of books and materials, checking in/out of materials, issuing overdue notices, reshelving of materials, annual inventory, processing of new books, etc.
Be familiar with the HOPAC catalogue and assist in book selection and location.
Assemble books for teachers for the topic work or other requests.
Set up the library schedule in consultation with Principals. August
Conduct library classes for Primary grades
Supervision of student volunteers in the library.
Supervision of students who are studying or doing research in the library, if requested by Principals.
familiar with curriculum content and instructional practices within HOPAC
Collaborate with teachers to provide instructional strategies and resources in teaching information and technology literacy skills.
Informs students and staff of available technology/media and assists with its integration in the classroom.
Assembles collections of media that support the curriculum.
Works with technology and its integration.
Ensure maintenance of the library in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
Repair damaged library materials.
Give a short tour of the library collection to visitors.
Organize and host book sales, author highlights, book clubs, and other reading events.
Make incentive schemes to encourage student reading and communicate these with teachers, parents, principals.
Lead in the development and growth of library services at HOPAC.
Supervises, coordinates, and trains media center paraeducators, student helpers and volunteers.
Other library maintenance duties as required.
Committed evangelical Christian
Experience in and passion for Library and Media Services
Experience with multiple forms of instructional technology
Bachelor degree in Library and Information Science or related field
Experience working in a library
Fluent in English
