Haven of Peace Academy (HOPAC) is an international Christian school with 380 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. HOPAC brings together a rich blend of students from 34 different countries and a variety of religious backgrounds including Christian, Muslim and Hindu. While the majority of students come from families of missionaries and the international nonprofit and business community, one third are Tanzanian.
Haven of Peace Academy was founded in 1994 by missionaries from several organizations, nationalities, and denominations who saw the need for quality, affordable Christian education for their children. Our mission is to provide an excellent, Christ-centered, international education that meets western academic standards and equips students to live out a biblical worldview in all areas of life to the glory of God.
The curriculum begins at the primary school with the Cambridge International Primary Programme and finishes with the Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level Programmes. The service-learning programme which integrates service, leadership, and stewardship throughout the curriculum and into the local, national and global communities is a foundational aspect of a HOPAC education.
The campus consists of 17 acres and overlooks the Indian Ocean on the north side of Dar es Salaam. Teachers serve as partially funded volunteers and are sent by various Christian mission organizations and churches. HOPAC pays volunteer teachers a monthly living allowance that covers a significant portion of monthly living expenses and the volunteer teachers raise support for the rest of their annual budget.
