We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Training Captain to join our Pre-Programme Training department. This pivotal role is your chance to shape the future of our pilots, equipping them with the skills and confidence they need before they embark on their mission calling.

We are MAF, a Christian organisation that utilises aviation and technology to provide assistance and hope to underdeveloped communities around the world. Founded in 1945, MAF currently serves in 31 countries. MAF's history reflects a strong commitment to serving some of the most remote and hard-to-reach communities in the world. MAF's 116 aircraft, provide vital transportation services to medical personnel, development workers, and aid organisations across the globe. The organization also delivers Bibles, church materials, and other resources to communities with limited access to Christian teaching and worship services.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Training Captain (Pre-Programme Training) at MAFI, you will be a vital part of our Flight Operations Department (FOD). You will lead the development, documentation, and delivery of comprehensive pilot training programmes, from initial standardisation to the first in-programme line check.

Your Mission:

  • Pilot Training Excellence: Oversee all training pathways, ensuring pilots are ready to pass their first in-programme proficiency line check. Collaborate with FOD members, support departments, and programmes to maintain top-notch training standards.
  • Tailored Development: Take ownership of each pilot's growth through their training pathway, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of standardisation and initial LOFT training courses.
  • Hands-On Instruction: Deliver flight training and assessments, staying sharp through regular practice and operational engagement.
  • Standards and Culture: Uphold MAFI's training standards, NAA requirements, and our unique training culture. Be a role model for desired attitudes, training philosophies, values, and operational standards.
  • Mentorship and Support: Provide instructor training and mentoring for FOD team members, support and advise senior pilots, and contribute to the development of pilots across programmes.
  • Innovative Training Solutions: Author and review initial pilot training courses, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose and support pilot development effectively. Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in pilot training.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Licenses and Ratings:
    • Commercial pilot license (ICAO or equivalent)
    • Instrument rating (ICAO or equivalent, single crew)
    • Instructor rating (ICAO or equivalent, senior level)
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Proven technical writing skills
    • Decision-making based on a values-driven framework, especially for resolving conflicting priorities
    • Excellent team communication skills across geographical and cultural boundaries
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English
    • Proficient computer skills, particularly MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Experience with aircraft types operated by MAF
    • Experience in managing and working in a remote team

Desirable:

  • Further education (Degree level) or equivalent experience
  • Experience with National Aviation Authorities (NAA)
  • Operational experience in multiple MAF programmes
  • Experience as a Training and/or Checking pilot in MAF check and training operations
  • Senior-level flight instructor with operational experience ideally in an MAF programme

There is an occupational requirement for overseas staff to be committed Christians, sent and supported by their home Church, and able to support and promote the Christian ethos and beliefs of MAF as a mission organisation through taking part in Christian activities such as Church events, prayer meetings etc. All roles (unless otherwise specified) require some personal support raising to be carried out under the guidance and training of MAF UK.
