Overview

Mission-Powered and Adventure-Approved!

At Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), we don’t just fly planes — we bring help, hope, and healing to the world’s most remote and isolated communities in the name of Jesus. In Papua New Guinea, one of our largest and most dynamic programmes, we serve hundreds of communities where aviation is not a luxury — it’s a lifeline.

From jungle airstrips to mountain villages, we operate in places where roads don’t reach, but needs are great. Behind every life-saving flight is a skilled team on the ground — and right now, we’re looking for an Avionics Engineer to join our PNG crew.

About the Role

As an Avionics Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in keeping our fleet mission-ready and safe for the skies. You’ll maintain, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems across a fleet of aircraft operating in challenging terrain — making sure that every takeoff and landing happens with precision and confidence.

You’ll work closely with our technical teams in Mount Hagen and remote bases, support line and base maintenance, and ensure all work complies with local aviation regulations and MAF safety standards.

✈️ Precision Meets Purpose

Our aircraft land in some of the most remote and rugged terrain on the planet — jungles, mountains, bush airstrips. Safety isn’t just a priority here — it’s a lifeline. That’s why the skills our engineers bring are absolutely vital. We primarily operate single-engine turbine and piston aircraft, and keeping them airworthy is mission-critical.

If you're passionate about aviation and feel called to combine your technical skills with a greater purpose, this could be the role for you.

🔧 Hear it from Andy, one of our engineers:

“A typical day in the hangar usually means inspections — lots of them! We focus on preventative maintenance, so every 50 or 100 flight hours, we’re checking aircraft to catch potential issues before they arise. In a large programme like Uganda, we also get to work on bigger projects — completely upgrading avionics to modern glass cockpits or stripping aircraft to bare metal for structural repairs and repainting in fresh MAF colours. There’s always something new to learn.”

Responsibilities

What You’ll Bring

  • A recognised qualification and license in Avionics or Aircraft Maintenance (Part 66 B2 or equivalent)
  • Practical experience in the maintenance, repair, and modification of avionics systems
  • A detail-oriented, safety-first mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to serve in a remote, cross-cultural context with flexibility and resilience
  • A heart for mission and a desire to see your technical skills make a kingdom impact

What You’ll Experience

  • Working in one of MAF’s most active and impactful programmes
  • Adventure and variety – no two days are the same
  • A supportive, purpose-driven team that values your work and your walk with God
  • Opportunity to grow spiritually, professionally, and cross-culturally
  • The joy of using your hands and skills to directly support the Gospel
