Pastor for an independent village church

Abridge is a small rural community within the M25 on the borders of London and Essex. Abridge Village Church is the only place of Christian worship in this village, but partners with neighbouring churches to share God’s love in word and deed in the village and surrounding area.

Its small, faithful congregation of around 30 people is blessed under God to offer a safe and welcoming space for groups of all ages during the week, as well as to enjoy prayerful and supportive fellowship in their Sunday worship.

There is a vacancy for a visionary pastor (we are looking for a couple or family, and are unable to consider anyone from outside of the UK) to build on the solid missional opportunities that have been developed at this church in recent years. These include extensive links with the primary school and community forged since the foundation of this independent free church over 100 years ago.

This unique opportunity for local mission and ministry would suit an individual or a couple called to develop their pastoral skills, and who also wish to explore creative rural ministry and mission among the children, young people, and older residents in this community.

The church trustees, and the present pastor, who is beginning to retire, would be available to support and nurture the gifts of any incoming pastor.

The manse next to the church has accommodation for a family and this would be provided free of cost, with all associated housing expenses covered by the church. This calling would therefore suit someone who already has some degree of independent means, or possibly someone who would like to continue a small part-time job. The latter would be a matter for negotiation during the appointment process.
