Hours: 0.6 FTE (3 days per week), permanent, subject to satisfactory references, and to a satisfactory probationary period.

Location: Fully remote, based anywhere in the UK, with occasional travel (at no significant cost to the charity) to the South West (Bath/Wiltshire) and Birmingham

Reports to: The Board of Trustees, via the Chair

Direct reports: Charity Manager, plus oversight of contractors and volunteers

People Against Poverty is a small, ambitious Christian charity with a wide reach and big impact. We fund projects delivered through local partners in the UK, India, Malawi, Tanzania, Haiti and Romania, helping individuals and communities break the cycle of poverty and build a more self-sufficient future.

We're entirely remote, there is no office, and every trustee, staff member, contractor and volunteer works from home. That makes this a genuinely hands-on CEO role: you'll be shaping strategy at Board level one day and rolling up your sleeves on operational detail the next.

The opportunity

The CEO role is central to our charity. As CEO you will carry us forward, building upon the development that has been achieved over the last few years. We do not stand still. We expect that the CEO will continue to look critically at the way we operate, implement measures already identified, and identify, develop, plan and implement further innovations.

You'll hold overall responsibility for income generation, donor and partner relationships, external communications, governance and financial oversight, and line-manage our Charity Manager. As our principal public representative, you'll also carry the charity's Christian ethos and identity into every partnership, fundraising relationship and public event.

What you'll bring

• Confidence in networking and communicating. Able to motivate people, secure speaking engagements and fundraising opportunities, and represent the charity both online and in person with warmth and clarity.

• Creative, innovative thinking. An eye for detail, able to carry concepts through to completion.

• A non-micromanaging leadership style. Comfortable working alongside your team rather than above it.

• Strategic and financial capability. Experience in building a clear multi-year strategy and managing budgets, cashflow and financial risk.

• Sound governance judgement. A working understanding of charity compliance, risk and reporting, and a constructive approach to working with the Board on all areas of governance.

• A committed, practising Christian faith. Able to root decisions in prayerful consideration and Christian teaching, and to represent the charity's faith identity with sensitivity across different cultural contexts. (This is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 — see below.)

Occupational requirement

People Against Poverty is a faith-based Christian organisation, and advancing the Christian religion is one of our charitable objects. Being a practising Christian is a genuine occupational requirement for this role under the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, Part 1), because the postholder is required to represent the charity's Christian values publicly, base decisions on prayerful consideration, and model the Christian faith through personal conduct. Applicants will be asked to evidence their personal Christian faith and practice as part of the recruitment process.

Checks: Subject to a Self-Declaration and Disclosure form and a basic DBS check. A criminal record does not automatically bar you from this role, we assess every applicant individually in line with our Safer Recruitment Policy and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
