Throw a Starfish is a small charity with big aspirations to impact world poverty one step at a time. We aim to inspire and enable volunteers to use their time, talent, and finances to achieve this.
There is so much to do. Access to good schools, support for children with additional needs, safe water to drink, and many other critical services remain elusive to so many people in the world. We recognise that one person cannot change the world, but they can change the world for one person, so we are seeking to inspire and enable volunteers to use their time, talents, or finances to impact poverty one step at a time.
Our main focus for this year is support for autistic children and their families in Kenya. Imagine being a child born with autism in Kenya, where resources are scarce and support is virtually non-existent. Sadly, this is the reality for many children in the Mount Kenya region. With limited access to services and a lack of accurate diagnosis, these children and their families face immense challenges every day. It is estimated that approximately 65,000 autistic people are living in the Mount Kenya South region of Kenya. This project aims to establish autism care centres providing comprehensive diagnostic, affordable therapeutic, teaching, and educational services to support autistic children and their families within this area.
