The National Extension College (NEC) is a long-standing and highly regarded online distance learning pioneer. NEC forms part of the Open School Trust, an educational charity, whose mission is to give people of all ages the opportunity to learn in their own time and at their own pace. Founded in 1963 as a pilot for the Open University, NEC has over 55 years of experience in developing online flexible courses for individual home study.
We know that our younger students often need an extra helping hand with their studies. In our experience, learning online works best when the parents are involved, so when you enrol your child with NEC, we provide a unique set of services to help you to support your child, at no additional cost. As a parent, NEC gives you access to the learning portal, learn@nec, where you can access your child’s course materials, monitor their progress in their gradebook and receive information and advice on many aspects of home education.
