Re-Entry. The End or a New Beginning?

Run by FieldPartner

What if coming home is harder than leaving?

Returning home after years of living and serving in another culture should feel familiar. Yet, for many cross-cultural workers, re-entry can be one of the most unexpected and challenging parts of their journey.

Relationships have changed, communities have moved on, and places that once felt like home may no longer feel quite the same. Meanwhile, those returning have also changed through their experiences overseas.

Often described as reverse culture shock, re-entry raises important questions about identity, purpose, relationships and belonging. How do we navigate these changes? And could returning home become an opportunity for growth and a new beginning?

Join FieldPartner for a special online panel conversation with Charlie Brainer and Tony Horsfall as we explore the realities of returning home after cross-cultural service.

Drawing on their experience in missions, transitions, coaching and member care, Charlie and Tony will explore:

  • Why returning home can sometimes feel harder than leaving.

  • The emotional, relational and practical challenges of re-entry.

  • How changes in identity, purpose and belonging affect returning workers.

  • Ways to prepare for and navigate the transition home.

  • How churches, mission agencies, friends and families can offer meaningful support.

  • How re-entry can open the door to a new season of life and service.

Who is this event for?

This conversation is particularly relevant for:

  • Cross-cultural workers preparing to return home.

  • Returned mission workers navigating the challenges of re-entry.

  • Mission leaders and member care practitioners.

  • Sending churches, pastoral teams and those supporting returning workers.

  • Friends and family members seeking to better understand the re-entry experience.

Whether you are preparing to return, have already experienced re-entry, or are walking alongside someone coming home, we invite you to be part of this important conversation.
