Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention

Our theme for Worldwide 2024 is “Reaching People, Changing Lives". This captures the essence of what the event is all about.  While it may seem at first glance to relate purely to people in distant lands being reached for the gospel and thereby their lives are changed, there is also an aspect of reaching people closer to home. These are the one’s God is seeking to use to take His Word to the ends of the earth and in doing so their lives are transformed as well.

As is usually the case, the majority of events will be held in Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church but meetings are also planned for the neighbouring Baptist Church, City Church (1st Bangor Presbyterian), Bangor Parish Church among others and so it is important to check where the events you are interested in are taking place.

Outside of Bangor, Worldwide meetings have been arranged in churches around the Province and beyond. Venues are located in Belfast, Portstewart, Drumreagh, Magherafelt and Dollingstown as well as Drogheda and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland. In addition, we are livestreaming some of our meetings to hubs across the country. Details of all of the opportunities to be part of what has been planned for Worldwide 2024, will be added to the website as the year progresses so keep an eye on it regularly.

The programme begins on Friday 16th August with a Reception for missionaries, retired missionaries and a range of supporters of the Convention. This is followed with the Pre-Convention Prayer Meeting, which is among the most important gatherings of the week and is open to all. Please plan to attend if you possibly can, as we commit all that will take place to the Lord and seek His blessing on the many activities which have been planned.

The Opening Evening Meeting of the Convention takes place on Saturday 17th. It will have a focus on India and a meal (with an appropriate menu!) is planned prior to this so look out for the booking details as numbers will be limited.

Each year, Bible teaching forms a core element of our Convention and this year they will be led each morning from Monday to Friday by Colin Smith, a scot who has been based in the USA for the last 25 years. These are preceded by the daily prayer meeting which are led by various members of our speakers’ panel. The evening meetings include speakers who will give first-hand accounts of mission work going on in a range of countries including China, India, Israel and France.

We had a Children’s Holiday Bible Club last year for the first time and this was very successful. We plan to run this again in parallel with the Bible teaching and, in addition, there will be a range of meetings for teenagers and young adults. 

This is just a summary of the programme for Convention 2024 as it stands at present. Other events will be added so the best advice is to keep an eye on the website which we intend to update regularly.
