At OSCAR, Your Mission is Our Mission. OSCAR exists to support you and the mission that God has called you to.
With a wide range of resources to keep Christian individuals and charities from having to do it all themselves, OSCAR comes alongside each one in a variety of ways.
David & Caroline Moore, MAF, Papua New Guinea
When I contacted David and Caroline for this interview they had been living in Papua New Guinea (PNG) just eight weeks. I learnt that David’s role there is working as Property and Vehicle Maintenance Manager and Caroline is taking the time to settle in whilst assessing where she may be able to volunteer.
They explained to me that they were introduced to OSCAR through information in their joining pack, when starting to fundraise for PNG in June 2019. This led them to receive the OSCAR Orientation Training, presented by Mike Frith, OSCAR’s Director. The training delivered by Mike covered orientation, culture shock and transitioning and was included as part of the Moore’s formal MAF training before leaving for PNG.
The training was described to me as “Excellent and really helped us both prepare before coming to the field, also with the actual experience of transition which we are still undergoing”. The Moores went on to share with me how they “have been well prepared for thanks to Mike's session presented at the MAF training”.
When it came to making arrangements for shipping their personal goods out to PNG David & Caroline used the resources and information provided on the OSCAR website at www.oscar.org.uk/resources/practical/shipping. Caroline reports "We found Brittania along with a few other shippers easily on the OSCAR site in their section on shipping. We were more than happy with Brittania as for a similar cost to others they came and packed up everything and we didn't have a single breakage even with the goods coming all the way to PNG from the UK." Most missionaries know that it's rare for all of your personal goods to arrive on the field without any problems, so that's great news.
I was very thankful to be able to complete this interview, and hear about the benefits of OSCAR, particularly as access to communication systems proved to be quite limited, especially in the more remote areas!
