Lifewords (formerly known as Scripture Gift Mission) is a global Christian charity dedicated to sharing the life-changing message of the Bible through the distribution, sharing and engagement of Scripture-rich, context-specific resources. Lifewords helps people from all walks of life share and experience the Bible in print, in person, and online. Through our literature, resources and a range of programmes and projects, Lifewords worldwide ministry is all about creative ways to explore the Bible for everyone, everywhere. We work in partnership with churches, organisations, and individuals to make the Word of God accessible in a variety of languages and formats, transforming lives and communities worldwide.
We are seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to support the continued growth and strategic direction of Lifewords as we work towards our mission of spreading hope, faith, and love through the Bible.
Role Overview
As a Trustee, you will be responsible for overseeing the governance and strategic direction of the charity, ensuring that it continues to fulfil its mission effectively and efficiently. Trustees play a vital role in the decision-making process, providing advice, support, and guidance to the International Executive Team (IET), and helping to safeguard the charity’s long-term sustainability and impact.
We are particularly seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Company Law: Understanding of charity governance, compliance, and legal frameworks, with a commitment to ensuring Lifewords operates within legal and regulatory requirements.
- Fundraising: Expertise in fundraising strategies and experience with donor relations, income generation, and long-term sustainability for a charity.
- Human Resources: Knowledge of HR best practices, staff development, and employee relations to help ensure Lifewords is a great place to work.
- Finance: Strong financial acumen, with experience in financial management, budgeting, and oversight to ensure that the charity's resources are being used effectively and responsibly.
- Donor Relationships: Experience in cultivating and supporting relationship with individual donors, trust, major philanthropists, with previous experience of securing financial support for charitable causes.
- Networking: Proven ability to build and strengthen relationships with external partners, donors, supporters, and key stakeholders to further the charity’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the charity’s work and objectives.
- Ensure the charity’s activities align with its objects, mission and values.
- Monitor financial performance, ensuring resources are being used effectively and ethically.
- Support the fundraising efforts and help grow Lifewords’ network of supporters.
- Contribute to governance decisions and support executive leadership in the operational development of the charity.
- Offer expertise and professional advice, drawing on your experience in company law, HR, fundraising, donor relationships and/or networking.
About You
We are looking for individuals who are committed to the values of Lifewords and passionate about making a difference through Scripture engagement. The successful candidates should have experience in some of the following:
- company law, fundraising, HR, finance, donor relations and/or strategic networking.
- An understanding of charity governance and financial management (or willingness to learn)
- A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A passion for the mission and vision of Lifewords, and a desire to contribute to the advancement of the charity.

Commitment & Time
Trustees are expected to attend quarterly board meetings (held online or in person at the charity’s offices near Waterloo) and support the individual members of the IET, as necessary (usually via Zoom). Trustees may also be asked to support the charity in networking and fundraising efforts where appropriate.
