Geography Teacher

Job Summary: Hebron School, Ooty, places a strong emphasis on Geography as a popular and high-achieving subject at both IGCSE and A Level. Our Geography curriculum at Key Stage 3 focuses on providing students with essential geographical knowledge while honing their analytical, evaluative, and explanatory skills. We emphasise the application of key geographical terminology in every lesson to support a deep understanding of geographical concepts and theories. This emphasis, combined with a progressive curriculum, facilitates a smooth transition to IGCSE and encourages consistently high levels of achievement. At the A Level, students are encouraged to make synoptic links across a range of topics using inventive and engaging learning strategies. Our curriculum is designed to be reflective, progressive, and challenging.
Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons that cater to the abilities of all students and align with the IGCSE and A Level syllabus.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters active participation, respect, and inclusivity among students.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assign homework as per policy and student ability, assess performance through various evaluation methods, provide timely feedback, and track academic progress.
- Pastoral Care: Demonstrate care and support for students' growth and well-being, and collaborate with the Head of Department and Learning Support for students with special educational needs.
- Encourage Critical Thinking: Stimulate critical thinking, open-mindedness, and the application of newly acquired knowledge. Extra-Curricular Activities: Actively participate in, organise, or lead relevant extracurricular activities, including fieldwork investigations and camping.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with Geography developments, engage in professional dialogue, and support colleagues in enhancing student learning outcomes.
- Department Resources & Meetings: Maintain materials and contribute positively to departmental meetings and school policies. Hebron School, Ooty
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute recommendations for school improvement.
- Parent-Teacher Communication: Establish effective communication channels with parents and guardians to discuss academic progress and address concerns.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty members to provide an integrated educational experience for students.
Requirements:
- Confidence and competence in teaching Geography at the IGCSE and/or A Level curriculum, preferably for international students.
- Strong knowledge of Geography, both basic and advanced.
- A Bachelor's/Master's degree in Geography or a related field (Geography can be one of the subjects at the university level); a higher degree is preferred.
- Qualified teaching certification.
- Proficiency in English for academic purposes.
- Ability to assess student work accurately.
- Respect for all members of the school community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for education, commitment to student development, and a nurturing attitude towards students' spiritual and emotional growth.
Preferences:
- A passion for teaching Geography and a willingness to share that enthusiasm with colleagues and students.
- Experience teaching IGCSE and A Level Geography.
- Ability to teach both Physical and Human Geography at A Level.
- Experience teaching Key Stage 3 and willingness to teach Geography across Year 7 to 9.
- Experience in designing and delivering geographical fieldwork.
- Willingness to accompany students on field trips outside normal school hours.
- Experience teaching high-achieving students and extending able students.
- Willingness to offer additional support to students outside normal teaching hours.
- Desire to actively participate in the school's extracurricular clubs and activities.
- Experience in Model United Nations.
