Special Education Needs Coordinator

HAB in Central Asia

Purpose

To help facilitate the education of students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) or those who have been identified as requiring educational accommodations and/or modifications (504s). As a result, the Learning and Guidance Support Coordinator (LGSC) will assist teachers with monitoring and observations in order to help special needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. This position provides the opportunity to set up and develop a system that monitors student progress according to stated goals in the IEP/ 504. The schedule will be set up in conjunction with the supervisor and will be based on student needs.

Required skills:           

Speaks and writes in fluent English. Holds a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a related field. Has experience in education. Has or is actively pursuing further training in special education. Ability to utilize technology and be familiar with Google workspace, Moodle. Has the ability to work in a collaborative way with diverse personalities. To be responsible, flexible and honest.  Ability to effectively communicate, both in verbal and written form, with students, staff, parents, and community members.  Establish and maintain effective working relationship with a wide variety of groups and individuals.  Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to make decisions and act within the district and program policies, procedures and guidelines. Confidentiality in handling district information.

General Description & Responsibilities

  • Works with teachers, administration, and parents to create, develop, and/or oversee Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the individual student’s needs, interests, and abilities of the students and sets jointly agreed goals.
  • Teaches assigned classes or tutoring sessions, developing and using standards-based curriculum to guide instruction.
  • Meets with special needs students on a regular basis to determine progress; assesses and reports on student progress at regular intervals to parents, teachers, and administration (according to the IEPs).
  • Creates, develops, and/or oversees individualized special education plans that meet the individual student’s needs, interests, and abilities of the students and sets jointly agreed goals.
  • Schedules regular meetings with parents and related school personnel (as determined by IEPs or teacher referrals) to ensure family-supported educational decisions.
  • Trains teachers in working with special education students and available to lead PD sessions when necessary.
  • Coordinates baseline reading assessments for Elementary and new students coming in throughout the school year. 
  • Observes students on IEPs in classes to help monitor and facilitate student progress and/or teacher-implemented accommodations.
  • Assists teachers and parents in contacting skilled professionals who can help diagnose specific needs.
  • Supports teachers in identifying students who need additional testing; communicates with parents regarding school recommendations for further testing and assists in contacting skilled professionals who can help diagnose specific needs.

Effective Date of Employment
The starting date for this appointment is mid-August 2025. The initial contract is 1 year in duration. Renewable 2-year contracts are offered subject to mutual agreement.
