Operations Manager - Liberia

Mission Aviation Fellowship

Overview

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an organisation using light aircraft to deliver help and hope in Jesus’ name in over 30 developing countries. For more than 75 years, MAF has been transporting patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.

Liberia is one of the oldest republics in Africa, but also one of its poorest. As a country, it has suffered more than a decade of civil war which saw hundreds of thousands die in conflict.  The nation was also devastated by the Ebola crisis of 2014. Today, many people live below the poverty line and have little access to electricity and running water.

MAF has been working in Liberia for a number of years providing essential support through numerous partners. We operate a Cessna Caravan based in Monrovia where we offer shuttle services, charter services and very often, medical evacuations. We are currently the only humanitarian flight service in the country and to continue this work and take it further, we now require an Operations Manager to be involved in strategic and management planning for the flight ops within the programme. Although not essential, a candidate that holds an ICAO Commercial Pilots Licence or ATPL would be desirable for this role.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will ensure that an appropriate management structure is developed and sustained, together with the necessary processes and procedures - within the operations team. It will be your responsibility to make sure that all aspects of the operation are properly managed, supervised and compliant with regulations. This includes appointing qualified personnel, and implementing key processes.

You will manage skilled pilots and ground staff while organising rostering, training, and compliance. Additionally, you will oversee flight and ground operations, ensuring smooth scheduling, dispatch, and customer service. It will be your responsibility to maintain high safety levels and performance standards.

You will also be responsible for accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and contingency planning for disruptions. Effective resource management, budgeting, and cost control will be key aspects of your role. Additionally, you will foster a culture of growth within the Liberia programme by ensuring staff training, appraisals, and development opportunities.

Your leadership as Operations Manager will be essential in maintaining efficiency, safety, in alignment with MAF’s mission.
