One-Year Internship to Teach English
For UK and Ireland residents / passport holders only
Use your English skills to help a church planting team in the Balkans.
This country is one of the world’s newest, declaring independence in February 2008. The religion is predominantly secular Islam, with small Catholic and Orthodox communities. Protestants represent fewer than 1% of the population.
What is the vision for the one-year internship?
- Join the existing church planting team to engage the local community in relationships through teaching English, baking, mountain biking and other gifts, skills or interests you bring to the table.
- Gain practical church planting training with an experienced church planting team.
- Learn language and culture while serving the community.
- Be mentored by a more mature member of the field team.
What are the basic qualifications to apply?
- You must be at least 18 years old and available to spend at least six months on the field.
- Commitment to the spread of the gospel among the unreached.
- Teaching experience is required, but experience teaching English is not necessary.
- Member in good standing of a local church with a history of active involvement, service, good character, and teachability.
- Humble, teachable spirit and commitment to grow in God’s grace.
- A love for the gospel and commitment to being continually impacted by its power.
Who will the intern be serving alongside?
The field team is made up of two families: one with two small children, and one with older children. You will be serving as a full-fledged member of this team. The team have a strong concept of family and team, working closely together rather than each person focusing on his/her own ministry. They use the concept of a basketball team rather than a track team. They emphasise language and cultural proficiency in order to reach people in their heart language.
What ministry activities will the intern be involved with?
The team are in the first couple of years of a new church plant in a town of about 30,000 people. As of yet, there are no local believers, but the team have been received warmly and have had many opportunities to share the gospel. The team have about 50 youth and 10 adults involved in English, computer and guitar classes. They are also serving about 20 local doctors and nurses through practical skills training. They also organise Bible studies and host summer camps. And of course, they share the gospel within personal relationships.
In terms of English teaching, the team have over 40 students on the waiting list to join their courses. They use modern teaching techniques, including games, media projectors and iPads, to enhance their classes.
If you have some experience teaching English and have at least six months available, let’s talk and explore the possibilities! To find out more, get in touch through our website: www.pioneers-uk.org/start-form.
