MAF Technologies Technician - Bougainville

Mission Aviation Fellowship

Overview

Where Electronics Meet Mission — Serve with Your Hands and Heart.

Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for technology and a heart to serve others? Do you enjoy travelling to remote locations, fixing things, and making a real difference in people’s lives? MAF is looking for a skilled and dedicated Technician to join our growing team in AROB.

We are MAF—a Christian organisation using aviation and technology to bring help, hope, and healing to some of the world’s most isolated communities. Since 1945, MAF has been flying to the ends of the earth, and today we serve in 31 countries with a fleet of 116 aircraft. But our work goes far beyond aviation—we deliver medical personnel, development workers, Bibles, church materials, and other essential resources to communities with limited access to healthcare, education, and the Gospel.

About the Role......

As a Technician with MAF Technologies, you’ll play a crucial role in providing and maintaining communication and power solutions in some of the most remote parts of Bougainville. From installing HF radios and solar power systems to supporting clients with technical know-how, this role is all about keeping vital systems running — and serving communities where help is needed most.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Install, maintain, and repair solar, electrical, radio (HF/VHF), and IT systems.

  • Provide technical assistance and advice to clients and churches.

  • Travel to remote villages for field installations and emergency repairs.

  • Train and supervise junior technicians and contribute to in-house and external training programs.

  • Help develop and implement safe working practices in line with MAF’s OHS policies.

  • Contribute to the spiritual life of the team through prayer and fellowship.

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid hands-on experience in electronics, radio systems, or solar technology.

  • A practical thinker with a heart for remote and underserved communities.

  • Good communication and people skills – especially when troubleshooting with clients.

  • Comfortable working independently and travelling into rural areas.

  • A strong personal commitment to MAF’s Christian mission and values.

We are looking for an even-tempered team member who can build and maintain strong relationships with both staff and clients. You’ll need to be organised and responsible, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure when required. You must also be physically fit and willing to travel to remote locations when needed.

Essential:

  • Formal qualification in radio or electronics (mandatory)

  • Minimum 2 years practical work in electronics

  • Strong theoretical knowledge of electronics and communications systems
  • Willingness to travel to outstations and remote centres as required
