Position: Corporate Services Manager
Location: Wewak & Lae, Papua New Guinea
Reports to: General Manager

  • Christian Books Melanesia Inc. is publishing and distributing Christian books, Bibles, ICT items and school supplies in PNG.
  • We do mission in a busy multi-site operation of retail shops and properties with about 58 coworkers and trainees.
  • After 55 years CBM PNG is a well-established brand in PNG and our services are impacting the nation through Literacy, Literature and Training.

The overall purpose:
The above purpose requires that we maintain integrity and oversee the corporate services’ needs of CBM.

The person requirements:

  • A committed Christian from an Evangelical background is encouraged to apply.
  • Confident communication skills to work effectively with tenants, customers and colleagues.
  • Positive decision maker with sound education 

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Purchasing.
  • Proven work experience in accounting, purchasing, inventory management or administration.
  • Competency with accounting software e.g. Xero multi-currency cloud accounting software (or willing to learn)
  • Knowledge of Point-of-Sale software Lightspeed and Unleashed inventory management software (or willing to learn).
  • Competency with the use of Word and Excel - data analysis and forecasting techniques.
  • People skills, strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and expense management.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinating and managing vendor relationships and contracts.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and overseeing day-to-day operations of the administrative department, inventory, accounts, payroll, banking, cash handling and staff members.
  • Plan and support annual audits including the compilation of reconciled accounts of Port Moresby accountant to prepare Statutory Reports for government authorities/banks and presentation to members.
  • Hiring, training, and evaluating employees, taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Developing, reviewing, and improving administrative systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensuring the office is stocked with necessary supplies and all equipment is working and properly maintained.
  • Working with management teams to set budgets, monitor spending, and processing payroll, making financial projections and review other expenses.
  • Planning, scheduling, and promoting office events, stock-take and training sessions.
  • Collecting, organizing, and storing information using computers and filing systems.
  • Understand banking arrangements and supervise/review reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Ensure consistency with CBM standard operating procedures, policies and accounting principles.
  • Liaise with the property manager, maintain the Fixed Asset register, ensuring assets purchased are registered and appropriate authority is exercised for disposals.
  • Review and approve vouchers prepared by the accounts officer (disbursement, receipt, and general vouchers) for expenditure and ensure that expenses are reasonable and allowable.
  • Examine the levels of purchase orders
  • Guide ordering new supplies to avoid inefficiencies or excessive surplus.

Working Conditions:

  • Work 40 hours per week during normal hours. A variation of these working hours at busy times.
  • A good workstation in an air-conditioned office.
  • Should be ready and willing to travel to other centres/provinces to assess inventory and accounting matters.
  • CBM is providing modest housing and travel expenses. (A Driver Licence is recommended).
