Jesus the Ultimate Hero: Developing and Sharing your Faith Stories

Join Joe at The Wellspring for this teaching day aimed at Christians wishing to turn their testimony or faith story into a format that is understandable, engaging and relatable – whether that’s a talk, a short story, a screenplay, or an epic poem. You are limited only by your own imagination.

Using Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” as a storytelling framework, we will examine the pre-existence, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the different stages of the Hero’s Journey, and how we might use this same framework to develop and communicate our own testimony or faith stories.

Outcome: by the end of the day, you should have a working outline of your testimony/faith story which you can then develop further using the medium of your choice.

Programme:

10-10.30am: Start - Welcome/Registration/Coffee

10:30am-11:20am: Session 1: Separation - An introduction to the Hero’s Journey of separation, initiation, and return.

11.20-11.30am: Short Break.

11.30-12.30pm: Session 2: Initiation Part 1 - The Road of Trials and Growth, leading to Transformation.

“‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.” – John 8:58-59.

12.30-1.40pm: Lunch.

1.40-2.30pm: Session 3: Initiation Part 2 - The work of the Cross, paying the Ultimate Sacrifice, Jesus’ Victory and Your Breakthrough.

2.30-2.40pm: Short Break.

2.40-3.30pm: Session 4: Return - bringing the Gift to the World, sharing your Journey with others.

3.30-4pm: End - Coffee/Cake

About Your Trainer:

Joe studied English Literature at the University of London, and Playwriting and Screenwriting at City University.

He is an evangelist at heart who longs to see God's people sharing the Gospel in creative ways that will have an impact on our lost and broken culture; ways which might help lead those who walk in darkness into the light that is Jesus, and the abundant life He offers. This course is an expression of that longing, as Joe works alongside believers who, themselves, have a desire to communicate the Gospel through testimonies and faith stories in powerful new ways.

Joe runs The Wellspring Retreat and Events centre with his wife Cathy. They have been married for 29 years and have two grown up children, Josh and Sarah.
