Short-Term Solarvoltaic Installation Supervisor

Friends of Kagando

Short Term (2 months) Solarvoltaic Installation Supervisor.

Opportunity for an all expenses paid short term adventure helping out a hospital in East Africa. The expected start time (actual project build) is September/October 2024, but it may change.

The background:
A Church hospital in rural South Western Uganda is in the process of organising a ~ 120 kW solar power system to be installed. Its main purpose is to reduce/replace daytime expenditure on grid electricity.

The job:
To have oversight of all work done by the in country Solar contractor, to ensure that it is carried out 100% to best practice/specified standards first time around, and avoid any need for reworks at all. By doing so you will ensure that the system will have a considerably longer service life and much reduced maintenance downtime.

Time period:
To be available on site during the fitting period through to testing and operation.

Skills needed:
An applicable electrician/technician/engineer qualification is required but the key need is for wide solar installation and equipment experience.
You’ll need to show you have the fitness, calm personality, understanding, experience, knowledge, training, work ethic and ability to ensure effective control of workmanship quality.

You should demonstrate/have:

  • A capacity to work well under pressure
  • Good physical fitness
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to attend to detail

The hospital is a Christian institution and a friendly and hospitable place, you will be expected to respect the lifestyle and values of the place while residing there. The supervision needs to be low profile and diplomatic, and may include a practical instructional element. The in-country firm will have its own project manager, so you will be acting directly on behalf of us, who are the sponsors.

More information concerning the hospital and solar project can be found at:

Recoverable costs and allowances:
Orientation, flight costs and standard travel expenses, per diem, insurance, meals, transport and accommodation will all be provided.

In the first instance please contact Charles Swainson by email

Please mention OSCAR when responding.
