Ministry Trainee/Pastoral Assistant

St John's Church, Blackheath

St. John’s Blackheath is experiencing an exciting time of church growth. We are seeking to appoint a Ministry Trainee/Pastoral Assistant from Summer 2019. This would be for one year initially, with the possibility of a further year. The role would be broad in its scope, encompassing all aspects of church life. We have some flexibility to tailor it to the right candidate’s individual skills and gifts. The role is expected to encompass a training element in order to help develop skills for ministry.

Responsibilities could include:
- general support of the ongoing work of the church;
- youth and children’s work;
- leading and preaching at services;
- involvement in music and worship; and
- help with social media, technical and operational tasks.

We will provide a wide range of experiences of working in a church. Our aim is to equip future leaders with a heart for the gospel.

The role would suit someone exploring an interest in future church work. Some suitable work experience in another church, working with young people and children or charity work would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be pro-active and keen to work with a wide range of people both inside St John’s and out in the local community of Blackheath and beyond. Great people skills and a heart for service are essential.

St John’s is an evangelical church in Blackheath, South East London (approximately six miles from central London). We exist to grow disciples of Jesus Christ committed to worshipping God in all aspects of life. This is done through sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and showing concern and love to one another and in our communities. More information is available on our website

Employment terms
A full time salary commensurate with experience will be offered. In addition, help with accommodation and any course fees may be available.

If you would like more information or to have an informal conversation about the role, please contact the Vicar Eddie Scrase-Field via email on Applications should be made to the Vicar with a CV and covering letter by Friday 26 April. Interviews are expected to be held in early May.

Part of the Ministry Trainee’s role will be to represent the church to members of the public and to develop and maintain existing relationships with church staff and other key volunteers. As part of a small team, there is an expectation that all team members will be able to perform a variety of tasks in a number of settings, including Christian church events and meetings. There is therefore a genuine occupational requirement for the Ministry Trainee to be a practicing Christian.
