Mission Aviation Fellowship

The MAF Residential House Managers are responsible for managing a boarding-type home located at Ukarumpa, providing interim parental care for children between the ages of 12 to 17 years of parents whose work assignment location necessitates this arrangement.

Responsibilities

Full role specification: 

To provide a safe and comfortable living environment for students to live and learn by :

  • Providing a safe and supportive environment.
  • Seeking to care for each child by monitoring welfare, safeguarding, and any other relevant tasks.
  • Driving children to and from evening and other activities as needed.
  • Providing advice, encouragement and emotional support to children of various ages and nationalities facing the adjustments of cross-cultural situations and living away from parents.
  • Organising the day-to-day activities involved in operating and maintaining the home, ensuring smooth operation and that the house is in good clean condition meeting the safety standards.
  • Ensuring students maintain their living space in a tidy and clean state at all times and complete assigned responsibilities in shared living spaces (including common rooms, bathrooms, toilets and kitchen).
  • Ensuring high standards of safeguarding practices are practiced and that students are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Monitoring student welfare and behaviour and responding to concerns of parents/guardians, keeping them regularly informed about matters (including positive behaviour and achievements) affecting the welfare of their child(ren).

Administration and daily management of the Boarding House by :

  • Creating menus and obtaining food supplies using the most efficient source with limited resources and minimizing waste.
  • Preparing and providing three meals a day plus snacks.
  • Managing, directing and working alongside national staff in-house.
  • Evaluating and reporting any maintenance needs and ensuring that the home is kept in good condition.
  • Providing reports and any other associated paperwork as requested.

Supporting Academic and Educational needs by :

  • Supervising and supporting regular homework and study activities.
  • Assisting with the delivery of a regular programme of weekend and night activities to enrich the personal, social and cultural development of students.
  • Attending meeting, discussions and other activities concerning the students as required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Job related role essentials:

  • Cross Cultural experience
  • Full clean driving license in both manual and automatic transmission
  • The ability to work with, care for and supervise young people (12-18 years old)
  • Understanding of students' needs and cultural differences with outstanding communication skills
  • Able to work closely with others in a community setting
  • Able to cope with the physical demands of the job
  • Ability to learn about child development, attachment and the effects of trauma on children and apply earnings in the workplace

Job related role desirables:

  • Past experience of residential children's work and or social care
  • Knowledge related to child development
  • Experience in education (i.e.) teaching
  • Knowlede to ensure food hygiene
  • Working residential with young adults
  • Homemaking and maintenance skills
  • Experience as a Foster Parent
  • Running a lodging establishment

There is an occupational requirement for overseas staff to be committed Christians, sent and supported by their home Church, and able to support and promote the Christian ethos and beliefs of MAF as a mission organisation through taking part in Christian activities such as Church events, prayer meetings etc. All roles (unless otherwise specified) require some personal support raising to be carried out under the guidance and training of MAF UK.
