PASTOR, DORCHESTER COMMUNITY CHURCH CIO, DORSET
Dorchester Community Church is situated within the Prince of Wales’ celebrated Poundbury urban development on the outskirts of Dorchester in West Dorset. Currently there are more than 4,500 people living here and it will continue to expand until 2025. We are a “new build” and the only church planned for Poundbury. We are eight miles from the seaside resort of Weymouth and surrounded by rolling countryside.
Following a recent vacancy, we are seeking to appoint a Pastor to lead our Church, which seeks to be contemporary, relational and relevant to our local community. He will be accountable to the Trustees through a line manager and will be part of and work alongside, a team of Elders. He will also have support from a part-time Pastoral Care Worker and a number of deacons.
Initially, this is a full-time four-year contract with a probation period of three months and a potential to extend beyond the four year contract period. Salary will be negotiable within the range £26,000 - £32,000 pa with 5 weeks annual holiday plus bank holidays. Continuing ministerial development will be encouraged and a 3-month sabbatical will be available following completion of every 5 years of continuous employment.
We are an independent Christian Church, a member of the Evangelical Alliance and part of Churches Together in Dorchester. We believe the Bible is God’s Word for us today in “Celebrating and Sharing the Love of God.” We believe this summarises what Jesus felt was the greatest commandment (Matthew 22: 37-39), and what He shared with his followers by way of the Great Commission (Matthew 28: 18-20). The Church was born over 100 years ago as a result of mission and this remains central to what the Church is about. We want to make known what we believe and to show the difference our Christian life makes by seeking to make a positive difference.
You will be an experienced, mature, spirit-led Christian Church leader who subscribes to the statement of beliefs of the Church and adheres to its ethos. You will demonstrate:
- A love for Jesus and a pastoral concern to help others in their walk with Christ
- The ability to preach and teach all ages the truth of the gospel faithfully and clearly holding to the full authority of Scripture
- You are passionate about reaching that outside of the Church and about enabling the Church to carry out that task
You hold to the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith.
